Reykjavík
Reykjavík, known as the "Bay of Smokes" was founded in 874 by the Norseman Ingólfur Arnarson. For generations, it was seen as a humble fishing village and trading post. Yet, today, it is home to over 60% of Iceland's population. Making it the creative hot spot for international music and cinema festivals, as well as the metropolis for the latest trends in fine arts and crafts. Here are some of the city views from above.
South Iceland
The south of Iceland boasts some of the most dramatic landscapes, from Europe's biggest glacier, Vatnajökull, to spectacular waterfalls, to the contrasting rich black sand beaches and geothermal pools. Here, they have it all.
West Iceland
West Iceland is known for its diverse geological landscape. From sleepy volcanoes to magnificent waterfalls, as well as an expanse of flora and fauna. Yet, it does not stop there; fjords, valleys, craters, and glaciers are scattered through this land. The history that emerged here has formed much of the Icelandic culture, through legendary poems and sagas dating back to Viking times.
North Iceland
The north of Iceland is home to the second largest city, Akureyri, which sits on the beautiful Eyjafjörður fjord. Not only could you experience whale watching, but you could also feel the power of the Dettifoss waterfalls, the largest in Europe.
Volcanoes
Known as the land of fire and ice, Iceland is no stranger to volcanoes. In fact, due to Iceland's unique geological makeup, it has a number of geothermal hot springs that locals and tourists have taken full advantage of. This interplay of geological opposites ensures that every adventure is filled with memorable moments that will last a lifetime.
